Learn Fast and Exercise Less?

We came across two insightful videos this week. The first one talks about how to learn anything and why that often quoted 10,000 hour rule might not just be an accurate portrayal of what it takes to learn a skill. What if you could reduce that down to 20 hours?

It’s comes down to four components:

  1. Deconstruct the skill – break down what you want to learn into smaller pieces.
  2. Learn enough to self correct – get enough information so you can practice sooner and get better
  3. Remove practice barriers – basically create some focused time
  4. Practice at least 20 hours – Get over the frustration barrier and focus

Interesting model and worth looking at how you can incorporate in your own life or business.

On that same note here’s an interesting post Why the “10,000 hour rule” isn’t actually a rule and a a look at the Complexity of Greatness: Beyond Talent or Practice.

Exercise Less?

The next one is outside of what we typically talk about but along the same lines. It’s a somewhat older short video about high intensity interval training.
